Description
Salvia nemorosa ‘Caradonna’ is a striking herbaceous perennial known for its deep violet-blue flowers and dark purple stems, creating a beautiful contrast in the garden. This variety blooms from late spring to early summer, and with proper care, it may continue blooming sporadically through to fall. It typically reaches a height of about 20-30 inches and spreads around 18-24 inches.
‘Caradonna’ thrives in full sun but can tolerate light shade. It prefers well-drained soil and, while drought-tolerant once established, benefits from regular watering during prolonged dry spells. The plant is appreciated for its low maintenance needs but performs best with occasional deadheading to encourage repeated blooming and a light application of fertilizer in spring.
This Salvia variety is particularly valued for its ability to attract pollinators such as butterflies and hummingbirds, making it a beneficial addition to wildlife gardens. It’s also deer and rabbit resistant, adding to its garden utility in areas prone to these visitors.
