Description
Schizachyrium scoparium ‘Chameleon’, commonly known as Chameleon Little Bluestem, is a compact, clump-forming ornamental grass distinguished by its striking variegated foliage. The leaves feature bold, vertical stripes of white and green, creating a vibrant display throughout the growing season. As temperatures cool in the fall, the foliage develops additional hues of pink and red, enhancing its visual appeal. Mature plants typically reach a height and spread of 2 feet (60 cm). ‘Chameleon’ thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, exhibiting notable drought tolerance once established. Hardy in USDA zones 3 through 9, this variety is also deer-resistant and serves as an effective choice for erosion control. Its compact size and dynamic coloration make it an excellent addition to borders, mass plantings, and rock gardens.
Sold well-rooted in a tall 9cm pot.
