Description
Hosta ‘Night Before Christmas’ is a medium to large-sized perennial valued for its striking variegated foliage. The plant forms a clump of heart-shaped leaves with creamy white centers and dark green margins, providing a bold contrast in shaded garden areas. In mid to late summer, it produces pale lavender, tubular flowers on scapes that can reach up to 34 inches (85 cm) tall, attracting hummingbirds and other pollinators. This cultivar typically grows to a height of 18 to 25 inches (45 to 63 cm) and spreads about 30 to 36 inches (76 to 91 cm). It thrives in partial to full shade and prefers moist, well-drained, fertile soils. Hardy in USDA zones 3 through 9, ‘Night Before Christmas’ is also known for its resistance to deer and rabbits, making it a suitable choice for gardens where these animals are prevalent. Its attractive foliage and low maintenance requirements make it an excellent addition to shade gardens, borders, and containers.
